Inspiring Me

I am committed to a better life for all of us. The listing that follows points to a sampling of the people and resources that I have found useful or important in life and work.

The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either – but right through every human heart…even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained. And even in the best of all hearts, there remains…an uprooted small corner of evil.

Thanks to ideology the twentieth century was fated to experience evildoing calculated on a scale in the millions.

Alas, all the evil of the twentieth century is possible everywhere on earth. Yet, I have not given up all hope that human beings and nations may be able, in spite of all, to learn from the experience of other people without having to go through it personally.

The simple step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie. One word of truth outweighs the world.

All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a singe word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

Heroes

These people and their organizations make my life better. They can do the same for you.

• Abraham Lincoln, exactly 160 years my senior (on the Hebrew calendar), I dedicate my presidency to continuing the fight for Republican values that Mr. Lincoln started.
• George Washington: how can you not have a soft spot for George Washington.
• George Patton, who would have given us a safer world if we had let him.
• General Curtis LeMay, who did give us a safer world and our modern air force, and victory over both the Germans and the Japs.
• William Tecumseh Sherman, who did what was necessary to end the war.

• William Wilberforce (24 August 1759 – 29 July 1833), British politician, philanthropist, with G-d as his co-pilot leading the movement to abolish the slave trade in the British Empire.
• Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, a man who makes it his mission to save the world.
• Aayan Hirsi Ali, who escaped a misogynistic society and came to the West. Her husband Niall Ferguson is pretty coold too.
• Ben Hecht, a man who made it his mission to save a people.
• William Lloyd Garrison, a man who made it his mission to free a people.
• Mosab Hassan Yousef, Son of Hamas Co-Founder, who bravely stands up against those who would kill him to tell the truth.

• Riley Gaines, the Olympic Swimmer who has taken on men participating in women's sports.
• Along these lines Helen Joyce, Rosie Parker, Karol Markowicz (Stolen Youth), Naomi Wolf, Heather MacDonald, Miriam Grossman, MD, Sara Stockton
• Thomas Sowell, a man who makes it his mission to speak economic sense.
• Henry Philip Lesser, a prison guard (and Jew) who spent 40 years to bring to the world the autobiography of Carl Panzram, a seriously bad dude, but an appropriate study for where we can go wrong.

I could go on and on. There is heroism all about us, the Bedouins and Jews who went into harms way to save Jews from the slaughter of Hamas, the elderly Palestinian woman on the news the other day (who would probably celebrate my death) decrying Hamas treatment putting her own life at risk.

The small business owners of Bridgeport who try to hold their community together in the face of disagreement everywhere.
