Bias in the Byline

It is amazing how the American press is willing to overlook the bias inherent in the byline.

The only reporters allowed to operate in Khan Younis must have Hamas approval. This means that every statistic, every “dead child” reported, should raise the eyebrows of the western press.

Blumenthal's Hate

As usual, Blumenthal has it wrong: Blumenthal, CT religious leaders call for more funding for security

In trying to appear even-handed, he betrays his hate. I don't think anyone is really concerned about attacks on mosques or muslims (the shooting in Burlington is reprehensible, but no evidence of a pattern), the doors of muslim students are not being tagged, nor do we hear about bomb threats on mosques, or pro-genocide professors being mobbed by Jews.

anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism

anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism

Antizionism is antisemitism when the only state that is criticized is Israel.

Where is Mr. McKinney's “serious humanitarian concern” for the hundreds of thousands killed in Yemen? Where is this concern for the hundreds of thousands killed in Syria's civil war? Where is this concern for the 1.7 million Afghan seekers of refuge that Pakistan is driving back into Afghanistan?

Where is this concern for the innocent Russians killed by the Ukranians, or the other way around?

Where is the concern about the persecution and rape of Christians by Muslims wherever they have power, or even think they can get away with it (it happens throughout Europe as well)?

The Challenges of Mental Health

I write now in response to Senator Herron Gaston's comment Taking on the Challenges of Mental Health (Nov. 16, 2023).

I looked at the Act. It establishes “a task force to continue to study the comprehensive needs of children in the state and the extent to which such needs are being met by educators, community members and local and state agencies.”

As usual, the Democrats in this state put the cart before the Donkey. They are trying to deal with symptoms of a public epidemic instead of its root causes. This crisis shows up not only in mental health, but in housing and poverty and crime rates and the wasting of generations of potential instead of the generation of wealth and the furtherance of the best of what brought us here.

We have a crisis of lack of meaning and connectedness, of a failure of community and personal responsibility, of “luxury beliefs” to borrow a phrase.

Moral Clarity in Israel

Moral Clarity in Israel

I can't help reacting to Ms. Malavisi's comment (In Search of Moral Clarity in Israel, October 14, 2023).

She says she does not intend to take sides. Then immediately does.

She prefaces this with an aside about the Ukraine/Russia war: “there is a clear side to which one might align,” and suggests clarity is missing in the war against the destruction of Israel and the west. As an “historian,” she must realize that there are people who believe Russia is in the right.
