We Are Not Sheep
A Last Thought on Our Fabled Election
I subscribe to the intelligent voter theory.
Every elector who has taken the care to register has done so because of his commitment to our republican way of life.
Every person who arrives to vote has vetted the candidates and come having made an intelligent choice.
In our special case, every candidate would have found himself on the ballot anyway. The primary would only change the line on which he appears.
This does not matter to the intelligent voter.
The intelligent voter can find the name of his chosen candidate wherever it appears on the ballot.
Further, anyone who would launch a battle for the top line, either through stuffing a ballot box or resort to the courts, could only be doing so because he does not believe in the intelligent voter.
I cannot say if this represents an attitude of contempt, disdain, arrogance or something else. Whatever it is, it stinks of manipulation and bad faith.
We are not sheep. Those who would think we are do not deserve our vote.
You, the people of my admittedly adopted city, deserve better. You deserve leadership that puts as much faith in you as you do in it.
I may have a lot to learn, but I already know that the wisdom necessary to move this city forward, to polish the diamond that this city is, is to be found in your hearts and minds.
My job is simply to draw that out and give it voice.
I thank you for your consideration and I pray I live up to the expectations you have for me.
